I lucked out in the textbook lottery this term - of my three classes, one doesn't actually require the required text, one is laid out around an outdated (and $160 cheaper) text, and the third reuses the book I bought for last term. Hooray!
Also, back in January I took an alcohol sabbatical - I'm thinking it might be time to go back to that? Hangovers are stupid and a waste of time. See also: Katy is trying to get her shit together like an adult.

I'm really grateful to not experience alcoholism to the point of ruining my entire life, but that doesn't mean I have to stand idly by while I continue to make the same poor choices and waste time that could be otherwise spent doing something more gratifying and productive.

I think that's a good stance. It's good that you've seen this before it could escalate into something damaging.
I grew up in a social environment where if you didn't go too far, you weren't going far enough. It produced some drinking problems. One of my friends from back then is close to two years sober now. Talking to him about his experiences with drinking and shedding that light on our high school years is pretty brutal sometimes.
