I had local anesthesia for the surgery on two impacted wisdom teeth (because I didn't want to spend another $300 to not remember the event and be loopy afterward) and that was fine. I have no problem with dental procedures so panic wasn't an issue for me; it was actually kind of cool. But yeah. General isn't 100% a requirement if you're concerned about it?
Congrats on keeping your drinking resolution so far! I stopped doing benders several years ago and I've been much happier since. Drinking's more enjoyable for me when I stay on the right side of the drunk line.
