grrltastic: (computer science)
This past week I passed my proficiency demonstration for school, and was officially admitted to the Computer Science program. This is Good News, as it ticks off one of the more stressful items on my spring itinerary.

Presumably in April, I'll begin the application process for my school's internship program, the PSU/PDX Cooperative Education Program. From talking with my adviser, I'm under the impression that my grades make me pretty much a shoo-in. Combined with my extracurricular programming activities, I feel pretty confident that I'll be a good candidate. At any rate, the internship cycle starts in July and then I can quit my terrible veterinary circus job. Hooray!

I expect that my new job will look something like this:

In other news, Rachel (friend from Iowa City) was in town from Madison over the weekend for an HRC conference. She spent the night with us on Sunday. The last time I saw her was when I was in Chicago in 2010, putting the nails in my marriage's coffin. In the interim I've gotten divorced, she's gotten sober, and we've both come way, way out of the closet. It's so nice to have friendships that can last through those kind of life changes.

Jennifer, another of the Iowa City crew, is getting married next month, so we'll be traveling to the midwest to be present for that. The other advantage to having Rachel around was that we could book a hotel room to share. Even if we are 30 now instead of 21, we're still poor college students at heart.

Life, she is trucking along.
